just in the last week or two my iPhone is struggling to charge, bought new cable from computer to phone, makes no difference (genuine Apple cable)
any ideas?

Pocket lint in the charging port. You need something plastic and small to scrape it out.

Check the charge port for lint. A toothpick is perfect for digging it out.

Yup shit always gets in my wife and my iPhone charging hole.
For me it was a piece of weed. Lol.

never had the issue before
never had the problem with my android phone (Samsung) , bought a new charging cable thinking maybe it was at fault. but no. i was starting to think i was going to need a new phone.
luckily i don’t

Does yours do that super annoying thing where the battery will usually last down to 1% change before dying, but sometimes as you’re using it it’ll die at like 7% or something?
Mine’s always been in a case with a water-resistant plug over the ports. Never had the lint issue.

Probably a bad connector on the phone. I know several people who had the connector fail on their iPhone 5/5s.

No mine has never died at low battery life
I usually turn it off when it hits 1%
